It's time I share in detail my professional experience!
Don't worry, I am not going to copy and paste my resume. I will however, post links to places I have done work for and maybe provide a timeline.
Back in the day I used WordPress, then Blogger and Flickr to keep everyone updated of my photographic experience. In the most recent years, however, Instagram has taken over my presence online and social media. I maintain three accounts - one personal, one professional and one for my adorable dog whom I hope to make famous someday, but that's probably just a pipe dream.
Right after college I completed a short internship for a small advertisement company called Picture Arts (mainly food stock photography). Unfortunately they're no longer around, but I learned a few tricks about photographing food, lighting and people in the commercial photography business.
Then I moved to Chicago and worked for the following companies:
2006 - 2008: Essence Photo & Video - 2nd shooting weddings.
2007 - Now: Wedding, Promo, Editorial Photography, Portraiture and 2nd shooting weddings for other very talented photographers on the side, while doing other things like the ones below. I've been fortunate to be published in several publications, and been featured as a photographer/writer in a handful of online blogs.
2008 - 2010: Brain Hurricane - Call Marketing, Tutoring and teacher/tutor coordinator. Brain Hurricane is an after school program to help Elementary / Middle School students improve IOWA test scores with creative, as well as fun ways of teaching and learning.
2008: Yantalo - Worked and assisted with documentary photography and communications. If you're looking to volunteer abroad, this is a great organization to donate your time and money to.
2009 - 2012: Picture Day - high quality school portraiture as a full-time/high peak seasonal photo retoucher, photographer's assistant, and photographer. I loved working here, and the team was exceptional. They're still around and thriving, you should tell your school about them.
2011 - 2013: Modern Image Studios - Photo-editor, Album Designer, Customer Service and Photographer's assistant. Unfortunately they're no longer around.
2012 - 2015: Pexco - Customer Service Rep and Account manager, also did some product photography, and marketing work on the side for them.
2015 - Now: Chamberlain Group - This is my day job.
I love my day job because it keeps me grounded, while I pursue my passion on the side, shooting between 8-10 weddings a year, and about 10 - 2nd shooting for other wedding photographers. I am incredibly busy for most part of the year. I am current, knowledgeable, and professional. I may be a perfectionist, organized freak, but can you blame me? Multi-tasking is not easy but I do it all. Time is precious, right?
